Family Environment

Researchers have formulated hypothesis to reveal aspects that subject youth to indulge in criminal acts. In 1997, Webber categorized these form of offenses into family, individual and societal groups. The purpose of this study was to analyze the link between delinquent acts and family environment.

In addition, the major intention of the research was to decrease the criminal acts. These activities ranged from unruly characters in schools, misuse of weapons and drugs. This was achieved by studying negligence and the relations that families had. Statistics in US indicate that 1034 adolescents escaped from home. Conversely, 2250 teenagers left school on daily basis. In 1995, Edelman reported that after five minutes, the youth were arrested due to violent crimes. In addition after every two hours, a child in US was shot dead by a gun.

As a result, these criminal acts have imposed huge expenses on the society. In this research the participants were 127 students from a rural high school who were in the 9th grade. After going through the questionnaire that they filled, we found out that 76 percent belonged to traditional families. Those who were part of the non traditional family were 50 percent of the population. The initial step of this study was to evaluate on the relationship in family position and the form of crime (Clark, & Shields, 2007).

The outcome indicated that status of a family restrained the link between family type and the crime. Delinquency and family type were not of significant in traditional families. In addition, family type and delinquency were not of statistical worth among families that were non traditional families. Results further indicated that relationships and family environment are essential in predicting crimes in contrast to peer relations. This implies that traditional families had plenty of time to interact with families, which was a good factor to predict delinquency.
