A response to Martin Luther King Jr. speech “I Have a Dream”
In his speech “I Have a Dream,” Martin Luther became powerful when he fought for equality. He changed the minds and hearts of citizens in United States when he emphasized on the civil rights movements. In the previous 100 years, Abraham Lincoln signed an agreement to end of slavery. In spite of that, the king reveals that the black Americans are still surviving in poverty conditions. Luther terms segregation as a reality and vows to fight until when oppression end in United States.

It is also noted that Luther employs use of repetition to emphasize his ideas. For instance, a hundred years is repetitions that reflect the duration which Lincoln freed slaves, yet the change was not effective in African American lives. Additionally, Luther’s choice of words reflects on the current and past times that exhibit a reality on racial discrimination.
Luther also uses techniques such as metaphors when he utters that “The crooked places will be made straight” (Echols 7). He also raises the hope of attendants by encouraging them that racial inequalities will one day come to an end in United States. In his speech, he motivates participants who took part in movements to end segregation. The speaker is influential and attracts attention of audience when he uses comedy and tempo to deliver his thoughts. As a result, this speech became popular in the entire US and various sections of the globe. It is a speech that encouraged civil rights movements, and campaigned against racial discrimination in America. Luther influenced citizens in US to live positively despite their race differences, hence promoted equality.
