SWOT Analysis for Normal Internet User

Strengths

Using the tools provided by the social media, the internet user can create content and share it with friends (Marantz par 3). Further, it is a tool that is important in keeping in touch with friends. This applies even to persons that live thousands of miles away. The suggestions provided by the social media keeps the user informed regarding the recent events and also on how friends and family are faring.

Weaknesses

The major weakness of using social media is that it can give the user an illusion of having physically connected with their family and friends while they have not done so for a long time. It messes with the productivity of the user on other tasks, as it is fascinating and distracting at the same time.

Opportunities

Social media for the individual user is a platform that can be used to discuss issues that are affecting the network of the individual. It can also be used to advertise the business or services provided by the user to the immediate environment by sharing pictures and videos of the products and services offered. It is a viral marketing tool.  

Threats

The major threat is possible contravention of the privacy of the normal internet user. The social media platform can also be used by stalkers to mine information regarding a user. It makes the internet user vulnerable in the process.

SWOT Analysis for The Government

Strengths

The social media provides a channel for the government to communicate directly and at a personal level to the citizens. This makes it easier to rally the citizens to support a particular course or policy. It can also be used to get the opinions of the citizens regarding the strategies adopted by the administration and collect their input on the same.

Weaknesses

One of the weaknesses that the government has on social media is that it has no control over the volume of information it can solicit from the users. The citizens also do not take social media as a platform serious enough to discuss government issues (Marantz par 6).  

Opportunities

There is an opportunity to keep the citizens informed about the activities of the government in real time. It can also be used to gauge the opinion and feelings of the general population regarding policies and decisions made by the government.

Threats

Some of the threats presented by data management of social media to the governments are the possibility of the citizens getting influenced negatively by enemies of the state. The data might also be used to victimize sections of the population resulting in discrimination. The government does not have control over the data that is collected, and government officials do not have the technical expertise to control and prevent the misuse of such data.

SWOT Analysis for A Private Company

Strength

Private companies have been the biggest beneficiaries of data management of social media. It has enabled these companies to target their advertisements to potential clients with precision. The effectiveness of these adverts is much higher than was the case with the conventional advertising methods. Data management has made is possible for companies to monitor their employees and curb corporate espionage (Waldman, Chapman and Robertson par 4).

Weaknesses

Company employees often fail at interacting productively with consumers on social media. It is a costly undertaking to advertise based on data management of the social media.  

Opportunities

As the number of persons active on social media grows, It will increase the understanding of the private companies regarding the consumer needs. This will make the advertising become even more efficient.

Threats

The viral nature of social media content means that negative news about a company can spread very fast. This can hurt the reputation of the company in a very short time.
