History Essays on The Constitution and Federal Government

The Constitution and Federal Government

The United States Constitution has three parts that help in framing the government of the United States of America; amendments (27), articles (7) and a preamble which sets up a federal system by dividing powers between the state and national government. The preamble states that “we the people of the united states, in order to form a more perfect union, establish, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the united states of America” (Heritage.org, 2017).  In my opinion, these words were meant to enhance unity thus is crucial in ensuring justice for all.

The seven articles, dictate the laws of the land and helps in understanding the Constitution. Articles help in framing the government by giving the guidelines to follow which are the laws that govern the land. Amendments are written for people to be aware of their rights, by people being aware, it keeps the government on its toes.

The un-amended Constitution rarely mentions the term ‘citizenship’ though; it contained some civic ideals. However, the ideals can only be traced partly in the universal personal rights over all particular political parties which conflicted with each other. With time, these common conceptions changed, and the United States gained a new identity. There were still some conflicts, but later there was a reformulation of those concepts which were termed as ‘democratic cultural pluralism.’ These thoughts made the federal government have some implementations such as; abolishment of racial segregation, reduced legal discrimination against women, promoted broader opportunities through affirmative action programs and ended ethical immigration.

Education is a component of the government that is the responsibility of the local government or powers. Public education requires funding which comes from different sources as the local government is not able to fully fund the education sector. Education is part of my daily life as from the age of three. The offering of public health falls under the state government or powers. The state government has more power than the local government. Public health affects my daily life by offering check-ups, preventive tips, health programs, and treatment. The state government has the duty to ensure there are health institutions and that they function accordingly.

The federal government is in charge of print money of the United States of America. Money is an important aspect of life, and I use it on a daily basis to cater for my everyday needs. The federal government ensures that the nation and state can get the currency as it is vital to the economy. Transportation is a responsibility that is catered for by both the federal and state government and is important as it enables my movement from one place to another every day.

If these components were not managed well by the three governments, my everyday life would be exhausting and unfulfilling for example lack of good education would make me illiterate. The United States of America has offered laws on which the federal, state and local powers work upon and has outlined how responsibilities should be carried out. An average citizen should abide by the legislation from the three governments. Citizens should also be involved in policy making at all levels and in the amendments to the Constitution.
