Nursing Paper on AACN BSN Essentials and Future Practice

AACN BSN Essentials provide the educational framework that helps to prepare professional nurses. The Essentials are applied to all RN and pre-licensure completion programs for both baccalaureate and graduate entry degrees. I believe that of the nine Essentials, Essential VI, interprofessional communication, and collaboration for improving patient health outcomes, is the most important and influential in the nursing profession. In Essential VI, AACN gives insight into how perspectives such as communication and collaboration, particularly among healthcare professionals are essential to delivering high-quality and safe patient-centered care (American Association of Colleges of Nursing 22).

Essential IV is the essential of choice because nursing cannot be done effectively without proper communication, collaboration, and help from other healthcare professionals or teams. AACN argues that health professionals must educate and train future clinicians on the need to provide patient-centered care being members of an interprofessional team (22). In this regard, the Essential prepares the future clinicians to use inter-and intra-professional communication and collaboration skills in the delivery of evidence-based and patient-centered care.

One of the ways I will be using Essential VI in my nursing career is by comparing the roles of individuals in my healthcare team and collaborating with the staff in the delivery of care to patients. It should be noted that the absence of teamwork in healthcare teams leads to patients being deprived of best care (American Association of Colleges of Nursing 22). It may also lead to the safety of the patients being compromised. Undoubtedly, effective communication is the cornerstone of high-quality and safe patient-centered care.
