Psychotherapy is a rehabilitation process that deals with mental disorders and emotional challenges. Mental therapy main goal is to better the functioning of an individual. Most people with mental health problem often face the challenge of physical health comorbidities (Brunner et al., 2013). Mental health problems greatly contribute to reduced life expectancy of approximately fifteen to twenty years just as physical challenges do in the population. Many articles support the association of mental therapy and physiotherapy (Nyboe et al., 2016). Physiotherapy play a major role in reducing mental and physical health problems especially in the vulnerable population (Stumbo et al.,2015). However physiotherapy is not always perceived as an important strategy in mental therapy and it is integrated at a very slow pace in the mental clinics. Physiotherapy benefits are a two way therapy. People with mental health problem are often at risk of developing physical health problems such cardiac illnesses, endocrine diseases and obesity (Vancampfort et al., 2016)). Physical therapy influences cognitive functioning, heart fitness and reduces the mental disorders (Stubbs et al., 2014). Much has been done on the relationship between psychotherapy and physiotherapy and many researchers find it difficult to separate the two. Physical activity is important in improving cognition, reducing cardiac illnesses, increasing energy, and improves the metabolic processes.

Physical health is just as important as psychological health. Mental health means general psychological well-being. Mental health is all about emotions, feelings, relationship quality, and management of challenging feelings. Maintaining good physical health requires good psychological health. Mental health problems such as depressions, anxiety, and stress may affect individuals ability to participate in good physical health behaviors (Vaughn, 2014). when mental illnesses become chronic might result into some chronic physical diseases and prevents quick treatment and recovery process.

Most of physical therapy are done through a check-up by physicians. Blood pressure, temperature and weight are some of the determinants used for physical check-up (Vaughn, 2014 . However for psychological problems the psychiatrists do not carry out any test. Mental therapy is often sought by people after some mental endangering crisis have happened.

Physiotherapy is just as important as psychotherapy. Physiotherapy often deal with the body while mental therapy deal with mind. However the two do not need to be treated as different. When the physical health is compromised the mental health risk are often at increase (Mental Health Foundation). Physical health affects the mental health as well as the mental health affect the physical health. Approximately sixty seven percent deaths occur as a result of heart diseases are linked to depression. Similarly depression is linked to cancer death of approximately fifty percent. Schizophrenia is as well linked to double risk of death from cardiac diseases as well as deaths from respiratory conditions.

Some lifestyle factors affect both the physical well-being and the mental health. Exercise is greatly important for physical health as well as improving mental wellbeing. Most of researches show that exercise stimulates the release of endorphins in the brain. Exercise however slight it might be helps in increasing alertness, energy, positive mood, and strong muscles. Diet is also directly connected to both physical and mental well-being.  Observing good nutrition contributes to physical and brain development, and prevention and management of different mental health conditions. Smoking lifestyles is a habit that destroys both the physical and psychological health. When people get stressed they opt for smoking to relief themselves though the effects are short term. Cigarettes have nicotine substance that affects chemicals in the brain. Dopamine which stimulates the positive feelings in an individual is often reported to be low in depressed persons. Nicotine found in cigarettes increases the dopamine levels but shuts down the brain process of making dopamine. When the effect happens an individual becomes addicted and often feel the urge to have more nicotine.

Cigarettes on long term affect the lungs and can lead to other types of cancers. Therefore in managing and treating such conditions requires both physiotherapy and psychotherapy. While doing physiotherapy it is often important to promote mental health. Some conditions such psoriasis is because of stress.  Psoriasis is characterized by red flaky wounds on the skin however it effects goes beyond the visual signs and symptoms. The psoriasis disease is an immune condition triggered by stress.  The diseases were reported to have affected approximately 1.8 million people from United Nations. It is also stated that many people presenting with psoriasis tend to feel annoyed, depressed, rejected and contemplate suicide.

Many the role of physiotherapy was undervalued in the mental health sections in some countries regardless of the need of the physiotherapist. The problem was solved by psychiatrist working together with physiotherapists in 2011 (WCPT, 2016). The main goal for collaboration was to link up physiotherapy interventions in mental health together with the psychiatrist so as to clarify the role of physiotherapy. “No health without mental health” many physiotherapist do not put into consideration that mental health problem is all to do with physiotherapy. The physiotherapist should be aware that it is their duty to prevent and promote health inclusive of mental health. Physiotherapists are the often in contact with patients therefore they bear the responsibility to educate and inform individuals of their mental health problem, eradicate myths on mental disorders and make referral to psychotherapists when necessary.

Physiotherapy is patient centered process in a health care. When a patient comes into a health care regardless of their conditions they must pass through the physician. Physiotherapist does more of assessment and diagnosis to both inpatients and outpatients. The physiotherapist often promotes health, prevent diseases, recommend treatment and rehabilitate. Therefore however how much mental therapy is important as physiotherapy, the physiotherapy play a major role in a healthcare compared to psychotherapy.  Before a physiotherapist making referral for psychotherapy, he will have provided supportive environment that incorporates both physical and psychosocial scopes.

Psychosocial approach to psychology stresses on attainment of physical and mental skills that involves body movement and support to an individual to function independently to enhance physical well-being. The psychosocial activities involve improving cognitive functioning, encouraging exercise to encounter their own abilities. The approach also integrates communication (Probst et al., 2010). However, psychophysiological approach involves coordination of physical activities to improve mental health problems like depression (Cooney et al., 2014). Physical activity contributes to improved sleep quality, relaxation, mental health, self-esteem and reduces physical complaints.

The psychotherapy-physiotherapy approach uses the motor realm as a passage to improve social emotional functioning. However this approach dwells much on psychotherapy rather than acquisition of skills, the physiotherapy is required to set a suitable environment that will facilitate changes. Physical therapy is important in this case as it initiates and develops a process that aims at assisting patients gain a better insight to their own functioning. This approach is not only narrowed to physical activity but to an individual inner views and experiences to be at the center. The incorporation of physiotherapy creates an opportunity to have feelings in a favorable condition and this stimulates the patient to develop a behavior which would have not in any case happened (Probst et al., 2010). Therefore it is clear both the therapies are important and require each other for completeness.
