Business organizations are often required to operate within the confines of ethics, which is a set of principles and values that govern operations and decisions. Significantly, an organization is guided by code of ethics and in the process gives direction in terms of programs, policies and decision making for its own benefits. Principles and values are based on ethical philosophies that require that organization does not operate or conduct its activities in a way that affects reputation and productivity negatively.
If the organization will operate in a manner that is ethically questionable then both the organization and customers may face several problems. In respect to an organization, it is worth pointing out that reputation and image may be tarnished and thus affect sales and productivity because people will shy away from products and services offered. Inappropriate conduct by a business structure may subject itself and its employees to unprecedented lawsuits that may ultimately lead to prosecution and imprisonment. This may also result in decreased earnings due to negative customer views and discourage the willing of the investors to invest in a company.
For its customers, there is possibility of injuries and death arising from use of substandard goods and services arising from poor manufacturing process. Consequently, most of the customers may be unsatisfied and decrease purchases from an organization. Noteworthy, some customers often invest in organizations and their products; therefore, in situations that the business operates contrary to ethical expectations their loyalty may diminish. This may also make customers to be cynical and spend more time doing research before purchasing.
Positive and healthy ethical culture can potentially improve the mental state of workers, promote image and reputation of an organization andimprove sales as well as productivity. It is recommended that organizations operate within the confines of ethical principles and values.
