Sample Business Studies Paper on Oracle Inc.

Oracle Inc is a large company that deals in cloud computing and empowers other enterprises of any kind in ensuring that they undergo digital transformation. According to Macrotrends (20200), Oracle Inc has 135000 employees as at 2020, which equates to a 0.73% decrease from that of 2019. The data shows that there has been a decrease in number of employees since 2017. Oracle’s levels in the hierarchy are divided into two parallel paths. There is the technical path and the manager path. The technical path is made of only six levels and manager path is made up 11 levels (Shetty, 2011). The technical path has the architect at the top of the hierarchy and the member of the technical staff at the bottom while the manager path has the CEO at the top and a software development manager at the bottom.

Oracle Inc operates partially as a tall structure and partially as a flat structure. One of its hierarchy paths has a CEO at the top and various managers underneath (Jonathan, 2019). Such a feature marks the corporation as a vertical organization since it has a CEO as the chief in the company’s chain of command. The corporation also has a partial flat structure where by an architect heads a group of other technical staff underneath. In this structure, none of the members of the chain is a chief decision maker because most of the decisions are made collectively. Most of the corporation’s decisions are made by the top leaders making its decision-making approach to be more centralized. There is a partial decentralized decision-making approach evident in the technical path of the company’s hierarchy. In such type of decision-making approach, the managers beneath the CEO as well as the staff in the technical path take part in decision making.
