The building blocks toy is made from fine wood. It consists of blocks that are in various shapes such as square, rectangle, prisms, and triangles. These shapes are also painted in different colors such as red, green, yellow, blue, white, beige, and orange. This toy was built for preschoolers and is often marketed to schools, teachers, and parents/guardians. The building block is ranked as one of the best in initiating STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) learning for preschoolers. It is excellent as it is. However, perhaps the company making the blocks could improve it by adding more shapes and colors to make them more exciting. Besides, they could supply snacks for the children alongside the toys to encourage the parents to buy more of them and for children’s enjoyment.
As a preschool teacher, I would use the building blocks in the educational setting to encourage learning of different aspects of life. First, the building blocks will provide an avenue for children to play with one another, which helps in building their social skills. Secondly, the building blocks are a great way to stir up the imaginations and creativity of the preschoolers. This happens as they figure out what to build and which shapes they need for the building. In the process of doing this, the children end up learning the names of the different shapes and colors. Thirdly, the building blocks toy also helps the children to learn how to count. Thus, in the course of open-ended playing, the children end up boosting their cognitive abilities, social skills, motor skills, and many other skills.
