Language is the primary aspect in which humans use to conduct their social lives. Notably, language is the haulier that signifies our identity to other people and significantly conveys our culture to the whole world. Personality is the individuals’ perception of who they are and how they interact with others. According to various studies, culture cannot genetically be passed from parents to the offspring’s and does not stay on its own thereby, goes in handy with language. Investigations indicate that there is a substantial relation between the models of language, identity, and cultural variations. Culture is mostly based on the sharing of meanings whereas language is the bridge that is integrated to create understandings (Alshammari 98). As such, language is more important to the people’s culture in which meanings can be regarded as the primary containers of cultural values.

Ways in which Language contributes to a Person’s Identity

Language is the major block that is used to build the communication glue between the tribal groups thereby, enhancing people’s culture and identity. As such, when we use as a given language, we perform it as people with a social history which is defined by our affiliation to a given social group. Therefore, use of a common word can be used to surpass the inordinate self-awareness among the individuals (Sheffield 45). For instance, the language I use to communicate with my friends and people of my age is different from one that I integrate when interacting with the older populace.

My tribal language is not only crucial during cultural activities as it enhances a feeling of inclusiveness but also portrays a specific history that has been created previously by the tribal members (Kouhpaeenejad, Mohammad and Razieh 200). Equally, my native language has enhanced my identity by facilitating the development of knowledge, principles, and attitudes that make me think, act, and feel like part of the community. Conveying of specific meanings through my language offers me a sense of identity by defining where I belong. As extrapolated by different studies, people of a common culture or society share some word meanings, concepts, and ideas which enable them to have a similar perception of the world (Alshammari 99).

How My Language Empowers Me

Language can empower or disempower individuals based on its ability to assemble or disassemble people. The use of my language to break intricate words to simpler parts gives me the ability to significantly understand various concepts in class thereby, enhancing my grades. Equally, integrating my language in co-curriculum activities such as music has always made my work to be unique, thus, receiving the enormous attention which has helped in building my career.


Language is one of the significant aspects of human communication as it is used to convey messages and promote social identity. Identity is the individuals’ perception of who they are and how they interact with others. As such, I use my language when with people of the community to surpass the inordinate self-awareness and as a form of unity. Equally, it is integrated into the social activities mainly to enhance the feeling of inclusiveness to the culture and to portray a specific history that has been created previously by the tribal members. Notably, my language has greatly empowered me both in the academic and co-curriculum activities. For instance, through my language, I can break the complex concepts to simpler times to promote my understanding of the topic.
