Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities refers to a United Nations human rights treaty that is intended to offer protection of dignity and rights or individuals with disabilities. In 2000, the convention was supported by five international NGOs for people with disabilities. The General Assembly of the UN followed a proposal made by Mexico and eventually came up with an Ad Hoc committee that considered the proposals to come up with an integral and comprehensive convention that would protect and promote the dignity and rights of people with disabilities.
