Conflict management involves a process of handling disagreements and disputes between two or more parties and also conflict with oneself. Primarily, Conflicts arise when parties differ on different aspects including in their opinions, interests, and methods, and no individual is willing to compromise with the other. Some of the Conflict management strategy types include collaborating, avoiding, compromising, competing, and accommodating. Additionally, every approach is employed differently depending on the circumstances and the desired outcome. Evaluating oneself educates us that there is some personal display of tendencies in our behavioral patterns and also helps us to learn of a more harmonious way of applying conflict resolution methods. Opinion on Self- assessment
A strong score on the self-assessment questionnaire is not a surprise once an individual learns how to respond to a situation whenever a conflict arises. Personality traits such as assertiveness and humility have a significant influence on how to react to a conflict in a given case. Temperamental characteristics of a person may hinder a person from using any conflict management style as the person may quickly respond negatively to a given situation and end up not solving the issues at all (Einarsen et al, 2018 ). However, the results are not all accurate as self-assessment is not a final measure of the individual’s ability to handle conflict. A person can change their behavioral patterns and also improve their way of reacting to situations and handling themselves when caught between conflict sides.
Benefits of self-assessment to an organization
The question would be useful in our organization as it will help individuals to assess themselves on how to handle conflicts. In a business institution, the assessment will assist an individual in avoiding conflict with the customers and suppliers to ensure they maintain a healthy relationship. The healthy relationship ensures continuity of business, a broad customer base, and thereby healthy competition with other players in the industry (Folger et al, 2017). Collaborating with willing customers will assist in building customer loyalty, thus ensuring a mutual relationship between the stakeholders and the business owners. Additionally, conflict management also helps in strengthening the bond among employees as the daily work stress and tensions are reduced, promoting a work-life balance.
Conflict management styles involve steps to handle disagreements and negative consequences on the outcome of conflicts. Self-assessment on conflict resolution enables an individual to rate themselves on how well they can resolve the dispute. The results of self-assessment are not final as a person can change their behavior and how to react to disagreements. Additionally, self-assessment can help improve personal relationships both at work and in homes and also foster positive cohesion among employees in the firm. Promoting effective communication among workers and other stakeholders also assist in conflict management.
