Healthcare organizations face various risks on a daily basis. The risks can be related to the organization, the staff or the patients. It is, therefore, important for the healthcare organization managers to come up with a model which they can use to assess and monitor these risks after which develop a plan to manage them. A risk management plan is therefore essential because it is a conceptual framework that acts as a guide to the program (Mississippi Medical Center 1). The plan can be operated in a formal way or written down to allow everyone in the organization to follow them. The following is a risk management plan for patient safety in an organization.

It is the role of everyone in the organization to ensure that patient safety is maintained at all time. Patient safety is considered as a high risk factor which if not managed can place the life of the patient and also that of the organization and employees at risk. There are several laws that have been established by the government to ensure that patient safety is guaranteed by all healthcare providers. In this regard, for selecting patient safety plan is because it is essential for every healthcare organization to come up with a patient safety plan to ensure that they operate according to the standards that have been set by the federal regulatory agencies and the Joint Commission standards. The plan will facilitate communication, effectiveness, consistency, and education as a way to mitigate the potential risks. It will be the responsibility of everyone including the patients themselves to ensure that safety is maintained at all time. The role of the executive managers of the healthcare organization will be to encourage the staff members to operate according to the safety standards. They will also engage them in the process for them to recognize the urgency of the plan ad its importance to the organization and the patients.
Some of the techniques that will be used to ensure that patient safety is provided is by the managers engaging the health care staff and professionals to report any forms of errors made while offering their services. Through this, they will be encouraging accountability while the organization will determine the best way in which it can manage the risks. For instance, if the risk was caused by lack of knowledge on how to administer a certain method of treatment, the managers can decide to take the employees through training. On the other hand, if it was caused by old machines, then the managers will see to it that they buy new equipments to improve the ways in which services are offered by the healthcare providers to maintain patient safety. However, the most important aspect is making patient safety a culture in the organization and there is no better way than engaging the staff members to take part in the plan to help minimize medical error and at the same time improve patient outcome (Leviton and Valentine 1).
Administrative steps contrasted with exemplar processes
The administration should get engaged in ensuring that patient safety is applied at all time. It is recommended that the administration collects data about any form of injuries that has taken place in the organization and perform a causal analysis. It will, therefore, be easy for them to discover more about the risk factors that limits provision of patience safety in the organization. Through this, the administrative can come up with corrective actions as away to mitigate the risks. For instance, they can educate the employees and the staff members on the importance of patient safety while at the same time offer them safety programs to apply while attending to the patients. However, the exemplar administrative steps and processes should involve the staff members holding a meeting among themselves to identify the best way in which the organization to guarantee patient safety at all time. At the same time, they can consult with the personnel involved with the patients to identify the complaint that the patients has raise regarding the services offered to them by the institution (Leviton and Valentine 1). Through this, they can come up with the best prevention strategy to ensure that safety is guaranteed in the organization. The administrative can provide access to important information that can help the nurses and other healthcare professional to manage risk as a way to improve the care provided to all the patients.
Analysis of regulatory agencies
Federal regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission standards play a crucial role in providing an oversight in the patient safety management process. For instance, the Joint Commission has set law that ensures that there is a standard of practice by all professional organizations that offer healthcare services in the U.S (Islam 6). There are laws of severity that acts as a warning to organizations that can cause harm to the patient due to poor medical practices. Some of the healthcare errors that are outlined on the Joint Commission website that healthcare institutions need to avoid include: near miss, hazardous condition, error, and routine occurrence of injury.
Exemplar risk management plan
The healthcare providers should maintain patient safety as a way to reduce work place injuries to the patients. The exemplar risk management plan is to develop a culture of safety and this can be established by improving communication in the organization. For instance, the manager can develop a culture whereby the employees are encouraged to speak up whenever they recognize that they cannot efficiently handle a particular case or treatment method. Through this, they become part of the solution of preventing harm to the patients. It will also enable the organization to operate according to the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management Standards (ASHRMS) when they can minimize risks as much as possible in the organization. However, apart from effective communication, the healthcare providers should be provided with the right resources (Mississippi Medical Center 1). It is also important to have a vision statement which acts as a model for the team members to accomplish organizational goals of risk management to the patient.
A healthcare organization can enhance their level of compliance to the standards set by ASHRMS by encouraging collaboration among the staff members to deliver quality service. The management can work hand in hand with the staff to ensure that patient safety is maintained. Through this, they can easily identify any form of safety concerns and address it early enough to perform as per the standards set by the federal government on safety issues. On the other hand, the organizational managers should invest more on the organization in order to provide the right tools that are necessary for ensuring that patient safety is guaranteed.
