Safety Policy and Procedures for Pressed metals Inc.
Pressed metals Inc. Safety policy is insufficient to cater for all the needs of the organization. This is because of the fact that there is deficiency of control processes that are in the position of preventing accidents from happening. The safety policy should be drafted in such a manner that it includes the employee contribution in planning on the safety procedures to be followed in controlling and observing employee safety and health issues at the work place. In addition, the following defects are noticeable when evaluating pressed metal safety and health policy. The first drawback is about the company act of overlooking the control process. This is where the policy puts more weight on the employee’s behavioral conduct at the work station. It implies that an employee should be careful while working. Little focus is applied on the safety measures that would help prevent accidents from happening.
Furthermore, the policy is poorly written an action that leads to improper handling of the company assets. Eventually, it escalates the accident severity and frequency rates to 25% within a period of three years. In a case where the health and safety policy fall short of addressing the key issues that the employees should observe, it leaves them in suspense and they are more likely to make repeated mistakes as they goes on with their day to day work. Thus, this policy for the company is extremely generalized in the sense that it fails to make specific objectives that employees should follow in executing their duties. It ensures that all the stakeholders are put on board in upholding the procedures and control measures installed in the company. Therefore, the company should improvise a workable policy in order to achieve its goals and objectives.
Lockout/Tag out Procedure
One of the things that are evidence in this procedure is that some of the steps are well spelt out in an organized manner. This means that an employee will be able to logout the machines after the work. Moreover, it stipulates that no removal of tag out and lockout should be carried out by an employee without the authority to do so or in the presence of a supervisor. However, some of the steps that need to be followed are not included in the process of formulating an overall company objective. One of the missing items in the procedure is the first step, which involves observation of the machines. This helps in identifying whether the machine is on or off so that one can proceed to the identification of all the energy sources connected. Before making any notification to the safety coordinator one should ensure that the machine is on the off position.
This ensures that the equipment is not functional until the next active session. An act that prevents unwarranted employees from coming into contact with an active machine that may cause harm and injuries. Any equipment in the organization should be kept in good condition after every use. Therefore, before one locks out equipment, he or she should ensure that the item is in good condition. Employees involved in log out should be at a minimum number to avoid delays and lateness of project execution by the members within an organization. It forms part of the many factors that create inefficiency in an organization setup. Thus, the company should strive to make some changes in an attempt to improve its overall objectives and procedures.
