Confirmation bias is a well known most common type of bias available today. It is the
tendency for a person to try to justify their pre-existing views through the searching of
information that confirms their views on certain topics. It is usually based on an
argumentative side to justify one’s taken on a decision.
The main potential impact of confirmation bias; is that it may lead to poor decision making in
the workplace (Kappes et al., 2020). Based on the fact that each person in the workplace, may
want to be right through supporting their own views. It is through this concept that the
employees or employers may decide to look for views to justify their beliefs. As a result of
each and every member conducting a research to support their own beliefs. This may make
them to rely on a poor choice due to the bias on decision making based on each trying to
support their beliefs. For example, an CEO may want to invest in a certain new product,
which he believes is the best for the company. He may ask the workers to conduct market
research on the same. But since the workers trust their boss, they may end up conducting a
research in support of the belief that the product is best. This may result to poor decision
To overcome the confirmation, bias the leaders needs to be based on neutrality of views. This
is to say that they should not be in support of any view unless they have fully studied and
conducted a full research that it’s the best decision to take. Lastly, there should be a debatable
method, whereby every member of the company is allowed to give their views on the topic
with supporting evidence. Then the best supported is relied on.
