Sexism can be defined as discriminatory actions or practices leveled against people in relation to their gender or sex. It considers women and girls as weak and less capable within the contemporary society. In relation to family, women are considered as people suitable for household chores. This means their primary responsibility should be parenthood that encompasses maintain a family hearth. In relation to school, girls are normally subjected to sexual harassment that emanates from their male counterparts. This may involve physical touching of body parts or verbal utterances.Workplace sexism relates to any acts of prejudice women face in their employment areas. This may engage oppression in terms of leadership roles based on gender. For example, delegating managerial responsibilities to a man instead of a woman with equal qualifications constitutes discrimination. Consequentially, this has resulted to inferiority complex among women with limited possibilities in achieving full potential. With such discriminations, aspiring and capable women cannot achieve their professional goals.

Generally, most women face pay inequalities despite working in equal positions with men. For example, a female district magistrate lawyer is likely to get lower wages than her male counterpart. This is mainly because of the traditional perception that women are unable to deliver in corporate, business, and political environments among others. Men are considered being able to perform well in complex occupations such as engineering, law, and medicine. This means that most women are left with low-paying jobs such as secretarial work or school teaching. In this regard, men are recognized having reasoning skills capable of delivering quality judgments. This has made women hardly ever get promotions and even a rise in ranks. Men are also perseived as breadwinners who are concerned with financial issues in the family. On this subject, they are supposed to pay bills that entail food, education, and healthcare among others. As such, they are justified to get better incomes than women.

Despite these reasons, women deserve equal pay and should not be subjected to any employment oppression. This would ensure everyone is able to explore the careers of choice and participate in the development irrespective of gender.
