Sports Article Review on Gendered Images in Sport Film
The collective knowledge of social learning theory argues that members of a society learn how to behave from images around them. The portrait of women in the media is the most commonly researched topic currently. The society has been seeing few images of women, and this makes the young generation believe that women should not hold powerful positions in the society. The point of interest, however, is the time of coverage women receive in the media platforms. It has been observed that women are given different time and space to feature in the press. More often the period is less than that granted to men.
The less attention given to women in the media platform has greatly contributed to the common belief that women are not very significant in the society. The children have been growing knowing men should be given the highest opportunity. Take for instance the world of football, it is not a surprise to see local news presenting a whole match of men while showing highlights for the women spots. As mentioned earlier, this little attention contributes to less opportunity for women as everyone in the society see the ladies as inferior beings. The society has a moral obligation to change this perspective. The best way to bring a change is to accord women equal time as men in the media.
